Banff (silent) Connoisseurs Choice Single Malt Scotch Whisky 23 Year Old · 1974 Vintage
Out of stock
A 23 year old from a long closed distillery who's history is lined with one disaster after another (fire, bombed during the war, and more fire) before finally being closed in 1983.
A Gordon & Macphail Indie bottle from a 1974 distillation and bottled in 1997 at 40% abv.
Very interesting rarity of a lost distillery that has a real old fashioned oily, smoky & herbal quality to it and i would put Banff in with its surviving neighbours of Inchgower, Glenglassaugh and Macduff as Coastal Speyside stylistically.

Rich amber with copper-gold sheen and a honeyed, sunlit glow.
Nose
Fragrant and perfumed, the nose offers barley and lemon grass, hints of sunflower oil and smoked oatmeal, with leather, almond oil, yeasty sourdough and a subtle earthy undertone.

Oily lemon bonbons, leather, smoked heather honey, violets, almonds, lime, ginger and a touch of salted chocolate.
Finish
Grassy and herbal, oily and waxy, the finish unfolds with savoury oatmeal, a whisper of smoke, ginger spice and earthy wet gorse that lingers gracefully.
