Tasting Notes

Nose

Tremendous sweetness - pronounced aromas of rum and raisin fudge. Also fruity - apricots and peaches - and nutty, with a definite almond praline presence.

Palate

Brown sugar, brandy snaps, pecan pie and vanilla. Toasted bread. A tangy, fruitiness is evident, with cranberries and red plums. Sweet spicy notes of cinnamon, ginger, and allspice. Overall a rich, viscous, dessert-style dram, with an underlying spiciness.

(bal-MEN-ach) Balmenach was licensed in 1824 by James MacGregor at Balminoch Farm, near Cromdale in Speyside, making it one of the older licensed distilleries in the region. The site later passed to Glenlivet Distillers in 1897 and became part of DCL in the 1920s, with much of its production used for blended Scotch rather than official single malt bottlings.
