When we take time to savour the past, each year has its own distinctive style and flavour. The same applies to single malt whisky. Though many distillers strive for unvaried character, we at Aberlour belive in allowing the years to lend their own particular ambience to our classic malt.

Kenny Fraser, whose family has lived in the glen for generations, understood the mysteries of maturing fine malt whisky.

The Russians reached for the sky and landed a robot vehicle on the moon. On his nightly cellar rounds, Kenny reached for his 80 year old ebony bagpipes to soothe the maturing spirit to an unearthly smoothness.

Deep in the North Sea, oilfields were discovered. High above, the first Jumbo Boeing 147 crossed the Atlantic. In the quiet of our distillery, where time moves more slowly than in the world outside, there was an air of anticipation.

To mark his 25 years with Aberlour, Distillery Manager Ian Mitchell had laid down an exceptional whisky. The barley, from the Black Isle and Moray Firth, had been harvested after the finest summer in 14 years. The oak casks, hand-selected and matured exclusively with Bourbon, promised a malt of outstanding lightness and subtlety.

Laurence Olivier arose with a knighthood. The world bade goodbye to The Beatles, General de Gaulle and the great racehorse Arkle. In Aberlour, to the lilt of Kenny's pipes, our malt whisky slumbered on.And now bottled, Aberlour 1970 is yet another highlight of lan Mitchell's long career - light in style, yet well rounded with a buttery smoothness and a lingering finish. The touch and long experience of a master craftsman. With a little help, perhaps from the ancient, haunting melodies of the pipes.

And connoisseurs agree. Aberlour is the first malt ever to twice win the coveted Gold Medal and Pot Still Trophy at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition.
