Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep, sunlit amber with copper-gold glow and a rich mahogany edge, evoking aged sherry reflections.

Nose

Opulent nose of dried figs, dates and cherries, with plum and orange zest. Rich sherry sweetness weaves through velvet oak, toasted spice, and a whisper of leather and toffee, evoking a timeless Speyside library of aged whisky and luxury.

Palate

Silky and full-bodied, deeply sherried with dark fruit—plum, fig and raisin—woven with orange zest and caramel. Velvet oak coats the palate as creamy vanilla ebbs and spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—emerge. A long, warming finish of cocoa, almond and refined oak lingers elegantly.

Finish

Long, velvet finish of rich sherried fruit, raisins and dark chocolate, with orange zest and toasted oak. Spiced, refined and lingering, leaving a warm ember of leather and cedar.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
