The "Archival Series" from Macallan is a limited edition release which recreates the old advertising styles of The Macallan during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The sixth release in The Macallan Archival Series, Folio 6 celebrates a wonderfully witty advert, which cleverly featured ‘The Chairman’ as a Scotsman dancing the Highland fling over a pen and brush, the symbols of the advertising team of Holmes and Salaman.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Opulent, sherry-kissed bouquet of dried fig and raisin, orange zest and toffee, with lacquered oak and a whisper of almond. Spices—cinnamon and clove—lend warmth, while dark chocolate and espresso deepen the impression. Vintage Macallan elegance, polished and inviting, like a refined drawing-room from a bygone decade.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
