The Macallan The Golden Age Of Travel: The Aeroplane Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1937 Vintage
Out of stock
A celebration of adventure, glamour and style, the halcyon days of commercial air travel opened up a whole new world of possibilities and are embodied in this rich and comforting whisky.
With the introduction of the first commercial airlines, adventure awaited those ‘jet set’ few who boarded the almost magical, great silver flying machines - in anticipation of international destinations they had only ever dreamed of. An exotic experience heady with glamour, style and romance. While the lucky few took to the skies, high above the River Spey, the Macallan distillery in the 1930s still employed three horses for ‘general duties’. The early years of the decade were tough for all distillers, largely due to the Great Depression and Prohibition in the US. But whilst output was modest, the noted quality of The Macallan was maintained.
This individual Macallan is history in a glass that also speaks of a bygone time at the distillery. Distilled two years before the outbreak of the Second World War, the whisky reveals clues about the distillation and maturation of The Macallan at this time; when a steam railway ran past the foot of the hill below the estate, bringing in raw materials and taking away deliveries of finished casks.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich copper-gold with a deep amber core and burnished mahogany edge, a warm, honeyed glow that suggests sherry maturity and a storied legacy. Light catches a luminous, old-gold halo, inviting and luxurious.
Nose
Opulent and nostalgic, the nose opens with dried fig and prune, orange zest and dark raisin, settled in sherry-softened oak. Vanilla, toffee and cocoa mingle with warm spices—cinnamon, clove and nutmeg—while leather, antique wood and a hint of tobacco lend old-world glamour.
Palate
Silky and opulent on the palate, plush dried‑fruit sweetness of raisin and fig sits beside dark chocolate, orange zest and toffee. A sherried warmth unfolds into creamy vanilla and oak, touched by a gentle spice. Rich, generous and comforting, it lingers with cocoa, red‑fruit hints and a refined echo of travel’s bygone glamour.
Finish
An expansive, luxurious finish that lingers with velvety sherry sweetness, dusky chocolate and orange zest, woven with fine oak and spice. Rich raisin and tobacco unfold slowly, finishing with a warm, refined glow that echoes the era’s glamour and the Macallan’s oak-forward character.
