The Macallan Speymalt Single Malt Scotch Whisky 40 Year Old · 1968 Vintage
Out of stock
Gordon & MacPhail have been purveyors of fine goods across three centuries and, over many years, have built up and nurtured special relationships with local producers. Among these are several local whisky distilleries in the Speyside region from whom they purchase new-make spirit to be matured in their own oak casks.
However, there is only one distillery for which they reserve the title ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’.
Established in 1824 and situated overlooking the fishing beats on the River Spey, the Macallan Distillery produces a wonderfully complex spirit, which they then carefully mature in quality oak casks ordered specifically for the ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’ range.
Each bottling carries the vintage of distillation and the year of bottling, capturing an exceptionally mature single malt whisky.
This Speymalt is an absolute bargain for any 1960's Macallan especially at 40 years of age.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-gold with rich amber depth and a subtle mahogany edge.
Nose
Opulent and layered, this nose unfolds with dried fruits—fig, raisin—orange zest and toffee, perfumed by rich sherry. Dark chocolate and vanilla mingle with cinnamon and clove as mature oak, leather and cedar invite a refined, tobacco-tinged depth. A whisper of spice lingers, hinting at decades in seasoned cask and promising a contemplative, luxurious experience.
Palate
Silky and sumptuous on the palate, this 40-year Macallan Speymalt unfurls a sherried tapestry of dried plum, fig and cherry, with candied orange and toffee. Rich cacao and dark spice ride over a seamless oak foundation, yielding a mouthcoating, velvety texture. A refined balance of sweetness and tannin, leading to a long, leather-laden finish with cocoa-spice echoes.
Finish
Long, velvety finish that drapes the palate in dark fruit, orange zest and cacao, lifted by refined oak. Subtle sherry sweetness lingers into spice, toasted almond and a quiet pepper, gradually fading to a warm, dignified glow.
