A full bodied palate of mature oak, ginger and raisin flavours are complimented by a light mahogany natural colour.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Light mahogany with a natural, warm copper hue and a soft amber-red glow.

Nose

Treacle tart with stem ginger, soaked raisins and sultanas, lifted by a hint of orange and a whisper of ground cinnamon.

Palate

Soft and rich on the palate, dark chocolate-coated ginger mingles with dates and dried apricots, balanced by pronounced oak and vanilla sweetness. A luxurious Sherry Oak character with precise warmth and a lingering, fruit-spiced finish.

Finish

Long, lingering finish of dried fruits, ginger and oak. A gentle vanilla warmth lingers as the spices from ginger weave with the oak, fading into a refined, dessert-like resonance.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
