Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with coppery-gold sheen and mahogany undertones; a warm, sherry-hued glow.

Nose

Dried fruits ripen, then soften, while vanilla threads through crisp green apple. Ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon drift in the background, with polished oak and a resinous, juicy orange depth.

Palate

The palate unfolds with rich wood spices, each layer slowly revealing their velvety viscosity. Subtle wisps of wood smoke drift in and out, lending a smoky grace to a refined, enduring balance.

Finish

Raisin and sultana sweetness dominates, meandering into a long, full finish with generous persistence.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
