Bottled by Douglas Laing for the Old Particular Midnight Series, this 2008 Tamdhu comes from single cask #18176 and was bottled in 2023 at 15 years old. Matured in a refill sherry butt and bottled at a natural strength of 54.6% ABV, the cask yielded 773 bottles.
That refill sherry cask is an important part of the profile here. Rather than overwhelming the spirit, it gives Tamdhu’s naturally sherried style a more measured, layered feel, bringing mocha, brown sugar, cherry and fruitcake spice while still allowing the distillery character to remain clear. It makes for a richer Speyside style, but one with balance and definition rather than sheer weight.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a hint of mahogany, a warm bronze-tinged glow.
Nose
An aromatic array of apple pastry, spiced currents and orange zest, with exotic notes of pineapple and fennel.
Palate
Juicy apricot and vibrant raspberry flood the palate, with bright lemon tart adding citrus sparkle. Creamy almonds frame the fruit, subtle spiced notes and a whisper of mocha and brown sugar deepen the finish, all kept in elegant balance against Tamdhu’s distillery character.
Finish
Rewardingly long, the finish lingers with warming malt biscuit, cream sherry and vanilla, a graceful, layered echo of Tamdhu’s character.
