About Tamdhu
(Tam-Doo) Tamdhu was founded in 1897 at Knockando in Speyside by a consortium of blenders led by William Grant, with Charles Doig responsible for the distillery’s design. It passed to Highland Distillers in 1899 and, like a number of Scotch whisky sites, spent long periods silent during the 20th century, including a lengthy closure from 1927 until 1947.
Under Ian Macleod Distillers, which acquired Tamdhu in 2011, the distillery has been rebuilt around a clear sherry-cask identity. Tamdhu is now positioned as a Speyside single malt matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks, a style that gives the range a richer, fuller profile than many lighter Speyside malts and has become central to how the name is presented today.
