Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep burnished amber with copper-gold highlights and a ruby-tinged mahogany core.

Nose

Powerful nose of dark cherry and dried plum, braided with fig jam and toffee. Rich sherry sweetness threads through roasted almond and cacao, while espresso-like bitterness and warming spice—nutmeg, clove—shadow a mineral, waxy richness. A bold, lingering finish.

Palate

Powerful and concentrated, this St. Magdalene from Cadenheads delivers a sherried core of dark plum, raisin and fig, layered over toasted malt. Rich honey, toffee and resin emerge, joined by a peppery spice that builds warmth. The finish is long and cacao-kissed, with lingering leather and oak.

Finish

Long, velvet finish drenched in sherry sweetness: dried fig and raisin mingle with dark chocolate and espresso, crowned by cinnamon and clove. Warming oak tannins linger, peppery and refined, leaving a lasting, contemplative glow.

(saint MAG-da-leen) St Magdalene was established in Linlithgow in the 18th century and became closely associated with the Dawson family after Adam Dawson bought the distillery around 1798. It later absorbed the nearby Bonnytoun distillery in 1826, and for part of its history it was also known as Linlithgow.
