A 5cl bottling of Macallan 10 year old Sherry Oak, sadly an expression the distillery no longer produces. Lots of nut and christmas cake flavour going on here. Raisin, pum damson, walnut and fig. Sweet and pruney on the finish with a flavour that lingers.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with rich mahogany hues and a coppery glow.

Nose

Sherry-driven and nutty on the nose, with Christmas cake warmth. Raisin and damson plum mingle with fig and walnut, a concentrated dried-fruit bouquet wrapped in soft spice and oak.

Palate

On the palate, sherried richness unfolds with dried fruit and nutty depth: raisin, damson, fig and walnut mingle with subtle almond notes. Sweet prune-like character lingers, finishing with warm, cake-like depth that coats the tongue.

Finish

Pruney and raisiny, with fig and damson threaded by walnut. The Sherry oak sweetness lingers softly, leaving a warm, nutty finish that persists like a finale of Christmas cake.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
