Raasay Na Sia Unpeated Single Rye Cask Whisky 7 Year Old
In stock
Raasay Na Sia Unpeated Single Rye Cask 7 Year Old is a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Raasay Distillery. Distilled, matured and bottled on the Hebridean island, this release offers a concentrated look at one of the individual components used to build the distillery’s signature single malt.
Na Sia means “the six” in Gaelic, referring to the six combinations of peated and unpeated spirit matured in American rye, Bordeaux red wine and virgin Chinkapin oak casks. Rather than marrying these components together, the Na Sia Single Cask Series presents each one separately, allowing the character of the spirit and its chosen cask to take centre stage.
This seven-year-old expression was made using unpeated Raasay spirit matured in a single ex-American rye whiskey cask. The absence of peat places greater emphasis on the distillery’s naturally fruity character, while the rye cask adds creamy vanilla, butterscotch, caramel and an assertive layer of peppery spice. Extended maturation brings greater depth and structure, balancing the sweetness of the oak with warming rye spice and ripe fruit.
The aroma opens with vanilla, butterscotch and caramel, followed by orchard fruit and aromatic spice. The palate is rich and powerful, delivering sweet malt, creamy vanilla and caramel before black pepper, white pepper and warming rye spices develop. The finish is long and full-bodied, with lingering butterscotch, vanilla and dry peppery heat.
Bottled at a natural cask strength of 59% ABV, this single cask whisky is presented without chill filtration or added colouring. It can be enjoyed neat for its full intensity, while a small amount of water gradually reveals more fruit, sweetness and cask-derived spice.
Presented in a 70cl bottle with its original box, Raasay Na Sia Unpeated Single Rye Cask 7 Year Old is an appealing release for collectors of island single malt, cask-strength Scotch whisky and distinctive rye-cask maturation.
