Port Charlotte OLC:01 Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 9 Year Old · 2010 Vintage
Out of stock
Part of the Cask Exploration series, the Port Charlotte OLC: 01 is one of the most unusual expressions Bruichladdich have released.
Originally matured in a complex blend of Bourbon, Vin doux Naturel and Syrah casks, this heavily peated single malt has spent the final 18 months of its life in those genuine Oloroso hogsheads. Dry earthy peat smoke with roasted coffee, lime and figs. Chocolate and vanilla come through as the peat embers give a last hint of smoke.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep burnished amber with coppery mahogany undertones and a glossy, sun-kissed glow.
Nose
Earthy peat smoke frames a dark-fruit core, with fig and toffee leading. As it opens, soft peach and honey appear, with a nutty nougat note, baked orange and a hint of mulled-wine spice drifting through, while the peat remains constant, hinting at resinous woody tones.
Palate
Soft, oily mouthfeel coats the palate, then a subtle dryness takes hold. Leading notes from the Oloroso cask and peat establish the profile, with fruity sweetness—figs, orange and peach—underpinned by nutty nougat. With another sip, darker tobacco, boot polish and earthy smoke emerge, delivering a peppery, lingering depth.
Finish
Dry earthy peat smoke lingers with lime and figs, while chocolate and vanilla emerge, tempered by a salty, sandy tang; peat embers grant a final, faint plume of smoke.
