Port Askaig’s rich and refined sherry-matured Islay whisky is a masterclass in balanced peat and sherry. This modern sherry style owes its rich flavour to Oloroso sherry butts, exclusively sourced from the renowned Spanish cooperage José y Miguel Martín. Bottled in a small batch of 20 Oloroso sherry butts, this will appeal to Islay fans who enjoy more complex sherry styles.
The nose opens with smoked damson jam and peppery seared steak, brightened by navel orange and liquorice. The palate grows dense with coal smoke and dark chocolate-covered cherries alongside charred BBQ meats. Finally, a finish of cocoa nibs and dried mint carries a lingering trace of boozy berries.
