A fantastic limited edition Old Pulteney 23 year old which is Lightly Peated Old Pulteney aged in Ex-Sherry and Ex-Bourbon casks that have previously held heavily peated malt.

A very enjoyable Coastal Highland malt from an ever reliable distillery with a bit more richness and smoke and more like an Island malt of Highland Park or Jura.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a mahogany edge.

Nose

Sweet smoke combined with toffee, ripe pear, caramelised apples, subtle bbq bonfire, fragrant and salted lemon, spiced pineapple and honey.

Palate

Rich and spicy, with smoked toffee weaving through griddled pineapple and peach. Smoked vanilla mingles with raisin fudge as aromatic oak lends depth. A salty nougat lift reinforces the coastal character, finishing warm, slightly sweet, and elegantly smoky.

Finish

Sweet smoke with plenty of caramelised fruit (tarte tatin of apples and pears) honey nut cashews, smoked salt and spicy pineapple with a dusting of vanillin oak.

Old Pulteney
(Old PULT-nee) Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, during the height of the town’s herring boom, and for a time it was the most northerly distillery on mainland Scotland. Its history includes a long silent period after Wick voted to go dry under the Temperance Act: the distillery closed in 1930, prohibition in the town ended in 1947, and production eventually resumed in 1951. Later milestones include a major refurbishment in 1958, Inver House Distillers taking ownership in 1995, and the release of the now-iconic Old Pulteney 12 Year Old in 1997.
