Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep burnished amber with golden copper highlights, gleaming like autumn sunlight on honeyed liquid—a luxurious, warm hue born of fifty years in oak.

Nose

Powerful and deeply expressive, the nose carries coastal saline air with floral brightness and ripe orchard fruits. Layered notes of cask char, plum preserve, green apple and velvety vanilla unfold, echoing the maritime maturation.

Palate

Dry and refined, with coastal salinity and a subtle crack of pepper. A foundation of rich cask char yields layers of toffee apple, cardamom and clove, intertwined with fragrant tobacco and vanilla. The palate deepens into maritime warmth, revealing depth and elegance that lingers with a quietly luxurious finish.

Finish

The finish rises like a tide, dry and crystalline at first, then unfolding into a long, warm wave of vanilla sweetness that lingers with a refined maritime whisper.

Old Pulteney
(Old PULT-nee) Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, during the height of the town’s herring boom, and for a time it was the most northerly distillery on mainland Scotland. Its history includes a long silent period after Wick voted to go dry under the Temperance Act: the distillery closed in 1930, prohibition in the town ended in 1947, and production eventually resumed in 1951. Later milestones include a major refurbishment in 1958, Inver House Distillers taking ownership in 1995, and the release of the now-iconic Old Pulteney 12 Year Old in 1997.
