Mortlach First Cask #6257 Whisky 22 Year Old · 1975 Vintage
Out of stock
A single cask Independent bottling release from Direct Wines sold in The Laithwaites wine shops in the 1990's.
One of the original seven stills of Dufftown in Speyside that was established in 1823 and one of the core malts for the Johnnie Walker blends.
Mortlach is unique in that it is distilled 2.8 times and somehow results in a single malt with powerful character.
With official bottles of Mortlach 25 year old retailing for over £600 for a 50cl bottle this is almost a steal!

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-amber with mahogany undertones and a warm, luminous glow.
Nose
Opulent sherried aromas rise, with dark plum and fig, raisin and toffee mingling with cocoa. Spiced orange zest, clove and nutmeg drift over rich oak, while leather and antique cabinet wood add depth. Waxy, luxurious and robust, it hints at Mortlach’s meatier, brooding weight and extraordinary complexity.
Palate
Full-bodied and opulent, it coats the palate with dark fruitcake, prune and cocoa, laced with espresso. Sherried depth brings orange zest and warm spice—cinnamon and clove—alongside nutty toffee. Silky, slightly waxy texture leads to a long, luxurious finish of leather, walnut and dark chocolate.
Finish
Long, luxurious finish of dark fruit, fig and raisin, with cocoa and spices. Rich sherry influence lingers, warming the palate with velvety oak and a whisper of leather, fading to toasted nut and a coffee-kissed sweetness.
