Lochlea’s independence allows them to collaborate with like-minded brands, and when Glasgow's Overtone Brewery sought whisky casks for their debut double mash stout, we saw a perfect opportunity.
We gifted them a mix of casks from our core expression, Our Barley—three bourbon barrels, two STR barriques, and one Oloroso sherry butt. After six months, the casks returned to Lochlea, where we aged Our Barley in the stout-seasoned casks for another year. The result is Lochlea's first-ever Stout Cask Finish, crafted from a blend of three select casks.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, rich amber with coppery highlights and a mahogany core, a stout-brown, chocolate-tinged glow.
Nose
Roasted barley and dark malt dominate the nose, with espresso and cocoa drifting through a ribbon of toffee. Subtle vanilla sweetness and toasted oak rise over whispers of dried fruit, hinting at the stout-cask influence and delivering a velvety, warming perfume that promises depth and gourmand richness.
Palate
Velvety palate with roasted malt and espresso, unfolding into dark chocolate, fig and orange zest. Bourbon vanilla and sherry sweetness weave through the mid-palate, while the stout cask finish delivers creamy cacao, toasted barley and a warm, lingering touch of spice and caramel. Rich, balanced and mouth-coating.
Finish
Graceful, enduring finish of roast coffee and dark chocolate, lifted by vanilla from the bourbon casks. A sherry-soft dried-fruit thread lingers, while toasted oak and gentle spice carry a warm, velvet-malt glow with a final whisper of smoke.
