Lochlea Inaugural Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky 3 Year Old · 2018 Vintage
In stock
Lochlea is an exciting new distillery in Ayrshire. Lochlea was a cattle farm when it was originally acquired in 2006. Extending some 222 acres, barley had historically been grown on the farm land, largely as livestock feed. Following an experiment to grow 50 acres of malting barley, it was decided to build a new distillery.
Construction got underway in 2017, converting the former piggery, byre and midden in the heart of the farm steading into the distillery, and repurposing the cattle sheds into bonded warehouses. Licences were secured in 2018, and the distillery was commissioned later that year. The land at Lochlea is important, and not just to the distinctive character of the whisky. This was the land that Robert Burns tended when he lived at Lochlea Farm, inspiring his thinking and development as a poet. Burns toiled the same soil that now grows the malting barley today.
Bottled at 46% ABV, the first release of Lochlea single malt whisky was matured in fresh first-fill Bourbon and Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks.

Medium mouth coating, holding on to that fresh fruit, cereal sweetness and gentle spice.
