Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with mahogany depth and coppery shimmer.

Nose

Aromas of ripe raisins and marzipan lead, unfolding into toasted almond, fig paste and subtle cocoa. Rich sherry sweetness lingers against velvety oak, with hints of orange zest and spice brushing the senses. A luxurious, warming nose that promises depth and cask richness from the Spanish Oloroso.

Palate

Rich and full-bodied, with velvety texture and a warming glow. Raisin and dried fig lead, followed by marzipan, almond paste and toffee. Nutty sherry, orange zest and cinnamon weave through cocoa notes, all carried by cask-strength intensity. The finish is long and drying, with lingering spice and a final kiss of sweetness.

Finish

Long, warming finish of raisin sweetness and almond-marzipan, with sherried depth, subtle cocoa, and gentle spice that lingers on the palate, fading to toasted oak.

Kavalan was founded in Yilan County in 2005 by King Car Group and is widely regarded as Taiwan’s first whisky distillery. The name comes from the old name of Yilan and the indigenous Kavalan people. Its first bottling, Kavalan Classic, was released in 2008, and the Solist range followed in 2009.
