Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a mahogany edge, a tawny, caramel-bronze glow that hints at sherry maturity.

Nose

Vanilla leads the aromatic impression, bright and inviting, with ripe peaches and apricots layering in. Subtle barley notes emerge, lifted by a touch of chocolate, weaving a warm, tropical sweetness that hints at the Amontillado cask’s influence.

Palate

Luxuriously rich toffee and treacle coat the palate, mingling with toasted oak and espresso-like coffee for a full, warming mouthfeel.

Finish

Peppercorn spice lingers, entwined with sherry-soaked cherry, delivering a warm, slightly spicy finish with a touch of sweetness.

Kavalan was founded in Yilan County in 2005 by King Car Group and is widely regarded as Taiwan’s first whisky distillery. The name comes from the old name of Yilan and the indigenous Kavalan people. Its first bottling, Kavalan Classic, was released in 2008, and the Solist range followed in 2009.
