Tasting Notes

Colour

Pale gold with delicate straw hues.

Nose

Green and crisp, this nose blooms with cucumber, mint, and lemon zest, entwined with green apple and pear. Subtle peat smoke and piney forest notes lend depth, while vanilla and oak give a creamy, sun-warmed backbone.

Palate

Firm, full-bodied yet fresh, this Hakushu delivers a forest-brushed palate: citrus zest and green apple lift herbal pine, cucumber and barley sweetness, with a wisp of smoke. A silky, oily mouthfeel coats vanilla and almond against toasted oak; mid-palate opens to mineral notes and a gentle peat kiss. Long and cooling on the finish, with heather, green tea, and lingering mineral notes.

Finish

Long, cooling finish of minty herbal freshness, green apple and citrus zest, with a delicate wisp of smoke. Oak and mineral undertones linger softly, guiding you toward a refined, lingering afterglow.

(hah-koo-SHOO) Hakushu was founded in 1973 by Keizo Saji as Suntory’s second malt whisky distillery, built deep in the forests of the Southern Japanese Alps to mark 50 years since the founding of Japanese whisky. Created to produce a style distinct from Yamazaki, it was established in Yamanashi for its exceptionally soft mountain water and cool, misty climate, and has since become one of the defining names in Japanese single malt.
