Glenglassaugh Octaves Peated Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Out of stock
Along with the Glenglassaugh Octaves un-peated this duo from this revitalised distillery were among the best new releases of 2016.
An Octave cask is one of the smallest used for whisky maturation and normally around 20 litres in capacity (200 litres are the norm for most Ex-Bourbon casks) which allows the whisky to mature quicker and take on more flavour and colour.
Just goes to show age is just a number, one of the best non age statements around and complexity here that makes it feel older.

"Because of the apparent extra degree of oil, this really is a treat. Quite splendid and scarily seductive malt."

Tasting Notes
Colour
Radiant amber-gold with coppery warmth and honeyed highlights, like liquid sunset.
Nose
Smoked Nutella on rye toast opens the nose, with malt loaf, earthy sultana and raisin, and a distant garden bonfire. Leafy, savoury notes mingle with polished leather and antique oak, while mossy fudge, salted caramel and a whisper of root ginger complete the aroma.
Palate
Juicy maltloaf with smoked butter and aromatic roast pork fat, layered with sweet spice and BBQ notes. Salted caramel threads through, while ginger latte and rich dried fruit mingle with mulchy forest-floor smoke and embers.
Finish
Smoked Nutella lingers, with salted toffee and caramel; fat and juicy, the oak is well integrated, leaving a very long finish with hints of smoked ginger and rum fudge.
