An impressive old grain whisky from the Girvan distillery located in South Ayrshire in the Scottish lowlands. Matured in an ex-Bourbon hogshead, this whisky has masses of rich, creamy vanilla, and an abundence of sweet wood spice. The cask yielded yust 63 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich golden amber with honey hues and subtle coppery undertones, a sunlit, glowing depth in the glass.

Nose

Enticingly creamy vanilla coats the nose, layered with warm, sweet wood spice and Bourbon cask depth. Notes of butterscotch, light oak, and a whisper of almond mingle with a gentle caramel sweetness, delivering a soft, inviting grain whisky bouquet.

Palate

Silky, full-bodied palate delivering rich, creamy vanilla, backed by an abundance of sweet wood spice and gentle toasty oak. Subtle grain sweetness rounds out the middle, with a warm, lingering finish.

Finish

Long, velvety finish of creamy vanilla and sweet wood spice, softly fading into warm oak with a final whisper of bourbon sweetness.

(GIR-van) Girvan was built by William Grant & Sons in 1963 on the Ayrshire coast, reportedly in just nine months, and opened as the largest grain distillery in the world at the time. It was created to secure a reliable supply of grain whisky for the company’s blends, and it remains one of the most important sites in the William Grant portfolio. Although Girvan is less visible than malt distilleries with large official ranges, its role in Scotch whisky has been significant for decades.
