Distilled in November 2002 and bottled in September 2022 at 51.5% ABV, this 19-year-old Girvan single grain was drawn from a single refill hogshead (cask #16487) for Douglas Laing’s Old Particular series and yielded around 230 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Bright golden straw with a warm honey-amber edge.

Nose

Layers of honeyed cereal, toasted nuts and buttery oak mingle with fresh vanilla, while distant wisps of woody spice linger.

Palate

Juicy apricot and plum mingle with creamy vanilla, caressed by soaked oats and sponge cake, with a delicate tickle of nutmeg warming through.

Finish

Cooked apple and ginger biscuits give way to a dusting of icing sugar, leaving a silky orange butter finish with a whisper of spice.

Girvan
(GIR-van) Girvan was built by William Grant & Sons in 1963 on the Ayrshire coast, reportedly in just nine months, and opened as the largest grain distillery in the world at the time. It was created to secure a reliable supply of grain whisky for the company’s blends, and it remains one of the most important sites in the William Grant portfolio. Although Girvan is less visible than malt distilleries with large official ranges, its role in Scotch whisky has been significant for decades.
