Bruichladdich Rare Cask Series - 'The Untouchable' Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 30 Year Old · 1988 Vintage
In stock
A 1988 vintage, 30 Year Old Bruichladdich. Matured in refill bourbon and, unusually, rare refill squat hogsheads. This whisky has never been re-casked. The subtle influence of these refill oak casks has resulted in a delicate and measured relationship between spirit and wood, quietly cultivated over time. This is definitive, old, Bourbon-aged Bruichladdich. Arguably the best style and some of the last of its kind.
"The 1988 is a stunning example of how well Bruichladdich ages. It is a delicate fruity spirit with a tremendous floral edge, all underpinned by a subtle oak presence" - Adam Hannett, Bruichladdich Head Distiller.
One of the great vintages of Bruichladdich.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Golden honey with pale amber edges, a luminous, sun-kissed hue.
Nose
Intensely floral, with sun-dried hay, coconut oil, buttercups and primrose. Vanilla fudge and golden syrup sweetness mingle with a bright citrus tang. Over time the coconut deepens as dried apricot and sherbet rise. American oak adds toasted vanilla caramel, giving a defining frame that supports the delicate fruit at the heart of this Bruichladdich.
Palate
Like liquid velvet laced with coconut and citrus, it unfolds with honeyed granola, toasted malt and mellow toasted oak that hold the palate. Classic Bruichladdich elegance gives way to oak, pipe tobacco and fudge, then a second sip reveals ripe pineapple, mango and a hint of mint, ending with a floral, enduring finish.
Finish
The finish shows a little more of the marine element of the maturation. A sea breeze with wood spice and fudge. The toasted oak goes the distance too and seems to bring along a little mango and aniseed to finish.
