In stock
An ongoing exploratory series of single casks, specifically selected to examine the evolutionary influences on maturing Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky - the variables of age, vintage, wood, barley, storage, location, humidity, heat and marine climate- the very essence of provenance. Until recently, Calvados casks were not permited for the maturation of Scotch. Following a change in the law, Bruichladdich have been able to release this exciting new whisky and are the first to take advantage of the new regulations.
This Vintage 2003 Bourbon / Calvados Cask has an out-turn of only 438 bottles released as a Limited Edition Exclusively for the UK Laddie Crew.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich golden amber with honeyed warmth and a burnished copper edge, a sunlit glow hinting at depth and refinement.
Nose
Opulent nose of fresh orchard fruit—apple, pear and a whisper of plum—carried by the Calvados influence, with Bourbon vanilla, toffee and spice. Creamy oak support, lifted by citrus zest, and a delicate hint of Islay coastal salt.
Palate
Opulent and powerful on the palate, this Calvados-influenced cask delivers orchard fruit—crisp apple and pear—bundled with vanilla, honey and toffee. Rich spice—cinnamon, clove—rides the high alcohol warmth through toasted oak. A maritime saltiness lifts the sweetness, giving Islay ballast, and the long finish settles into fruit, spice and a whisper of briny smoke.
Finish
An expansive, lingering finish where Calvados-derived apple fruit drives bright orchard sweetness, softened by Bourbon vanilla and spice. A coastal kiss of sea air threads through, finishing with warm, briny notes and a subtle peppery fade that lingers long on the palate.
