In 2017, spirit started flowing again from copper stills at Lindores Abbey Distillery, and the first single malt whisky was released in 2021.
The whisky is built around a modern Fife-based approach, with local Laureate barley, traditional wooden washbacks, three copper pot stills and water drawn from a borehole close to the abbey. Lindores describes itself as a small family-run distillery, and that scale shows in its emphasis on local sourcing and flexible maturation, including a broad mix of cask types across the range. Together, the abbey history, the 1494 connection and the revival of distilling after a break of more than five centuries give Lindores a distinctive place in modern Scotch whisky.
