Distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2020, this 29-year-old Bladnoch was released by Wemyss Malts as part of their single cask series. Matured for nearly three decades in a bourbon barrel, the cask yielded 172 bottles, bottled at 46% ABV. As with all Wemyss single cask bottlings, the name “Bourbon Barrel Bonanza!” reflects the character and flavour profile found within the cask.
Bladnoch Distillery, located in the Lowlands near Wigtown, dates back to 1817 and is one of Scotland’s oldest privately founded distilleries. The distillery is known for producing a lighter, elegant spirit that develops beautifully in bourbon casks over long maturation, often bringing out notes of vanilla, coconut and delicate fruit.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with honeyed copper highlights.
Nose
Aromas rise with bright fruit: apple compote and cider give way to candied apple and warm nutmeg, all wrapped in fragrant cedar wood.
Palate
Intense, cider-driven fruit with pear casserole and a hint of jasmine tea; coconut and vanilla emerge mid-palate, followed by ginger jam and a collage of spices that build in complexity, finishing with a bright, mouth-warming spice echo.
Finish
A surprisingly small tobacco note lingers in the finish.
