Benriach Birnie Moss Peated Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
In stock
BenRiach Birnie Moss is an intensely peated Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that combines the distillery’s naturally fruit-rich spirit with dense Highland peat smoke. Matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at a robust 48% ABV, it delivers a bold balance of ripe fruit, creamy vanilla, toasted malt and lingering bonfire smoke.
While Speyside is best known for elegant, fruit-forward single malts, BenRiach has a long-established tradition of producing peated spirit. The malted barley used for Birnie Moss is dried over Highland peat, creating a sweet, earthy and woodland-like smoke rather than the strongly maritime or medicinal character commonly associated with heavily peated Islay whisky. This distinctive smoke complements BenRiach’s orchard and stone-fruit character rather than overpowering it.
Maturation in ex-bourbon casks adds layers of vanilla, honeyed sweetness and toasted oak to the whisky’s powerful peat profile. Citrus zest, ripe peach, apricot and barbequed pineapple bring freshness and fruit, while warming spice, roasted nuts and savoury smoke add depth. The higher 48% ABV preserves a rich, full-bodied texture and allows the sweetness, fruit and peat to develop gradually in the glass.
Named after an area of windswept moorland close to BenRiach Distillery, Birnie Moss is an excellent choice for drinkers seeking a heavily peated Scotch whisky with a distinctly Speyside character. It can be enjoyed neat for maximum intensity, while a small amount of water opens further notes of vanilla custard, citrus, ripe fruit and aromatic wood smoke.
