The distillery passed through Seagram and Pernod Ricard before being bought in 2004 by an independent consortium led by Billy Walker. That period reshaped Benriach’s reputation, with a stronger focus on single malt, cask variation and older stock. Brown-Forman acquired The BenRiach Distillery Company in 2016, bringing Benriach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh into the same ownership.
Benriach is known for an unusually broad Speyside style, producing unpeated, peated and triple-distilled spirit. The range includes classic fruit-led Speyside expressions such as The Original Ten and The Twelve, alongside smoky releases and varied cask maturations using bourbon, sherry, port, rum and wine casks. Its combination of traditional floor maltings, peated runs and experimental maturation gives Benriach a wider flavour range than many Speyside distilleries.
