Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with coppery glints and a warm honey-gold core, a natural colour reflecting 27 years in a single hogshead.

Nose

Very clean, sharply defined aromas of stewed dark fruits, subtle spices, and a whisper of background smoke.

Palate

A heady, complex palate of dark fudge and dried berries, with a pronounced liquorice core. Fragrant, unobtrusive smoke threads through, leaving a warm, subtle spice and a polished, lingering sweetness.

Finish

A short, smooth, gently warming finish that glides away on buttered notes with a subtle dusting of smoked paprika.

His son Peter took up the reins soon after and built a significant business and by the end of the 19th century, when blended Scotch was becoming the fashion, Long John’s Dew of Ben Nevis was a successful brand.
