Ben Nevis Scottish Folklore Series 1st Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky 45 Year Old · 1972 Vintage
In stock
This 1972 Ben Nevis single malt whisky is named Cù-Sìth after a ‘terrifying’ large hound, reputed to possess a murderous bark and to stalk the Highlands, preying upon weary travellers. Anyone who hears the beast bark three times, it is said, will be instantly transported to the underworld.
Bottled at 43.2% abv, drawn from a single Sherry hogshead that yielded just 228 bottles.
This Ben Nevis 45-year-old from an independent bottler is one of the Scottish Folklore series which will comprise six single cask whiskies, each featuring a different mythical beast.
"Seriously on the nutty side, but balanced out with those lush chocolate notes" Whisky Magazine 8.8/10.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, luminous amber with coppery highlights and a mahogany core.
Nose
Powerfully sherried and irresistibly nutty, this Ben Nevis unfurls with dark chocolate, roasted almonds and caramelized fig. Dried fruits linger—raisins and prunes—touched by orange zest and a whisper of toffee. Rich oak and a cocoa-scented finish round the aroma, inviting a slow, reverent savor.
Palate
Velvet and substantial, the palate begins with roasted hazelnuts and almond, unfolding into dark chocolate and dried fig. Sherry-soaked oak adds warm spice and cocoa nibs, with a bright note of orange zest. The 43.2% ABV lends grace and balance, delivering a long, refined finish of toffee, cocoa, and lingering spice.
Finish
Long, chocolate-rich finish with toasted almond and dark fruit, shaped by sherry. Cocoa-dusted oak lingers as spice unfolds, leaving a warm, nutty sweetness that slowly fades to a refined, velvet glow.
