Belgrove That Boutique-Y Company Batch #1 Australian Rye Whisky 4 Year Old
In stock
Internationally renowned Ryes made by ‘Mad Scientist’ Peter Bignell, a Tasmanian farmer turned distiller. Peter is known for his unconventional equipment and techniques, you may recognise him from a certain celebrity chef’s recent TV series...
Belgrove’s still is built from reclaimed copper from fallen power lines, and is direct fired using cooking oil from a local roadhouse. The grain is malted in a reclaimed tumble dryer, and milled it in an old meat mincer. The distillery came into being in 2008 after harvesting an unexpectedly large crop of rye.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich amber with copper-gold sheen and sunlit honey highlights, edged by a warm mahogany undertone.
Nose
Aromas of sun-warmed rye grain and toasted malt, with brisk peppery spice and hints of vanilla and caramel from oak. Rustic cereal notes mingle with citrus zest and a touch of honeyed warmth, suggesting a craft, farm-born whisky with a measured, fruity edge.
Palate
Full-bodied and richly oily on the palate, it unfurls rye-forward spice—white pepper, cinnamon, clove, and a pinch of chili heat—alongside creamy caramel and vanilla from oak. Dried citrus zest and orchard fruit lift the mid-palate, while a touch of cocoa and coffee depth adds ballast. The finish is long and warming, with toasted rye and resinous wood lingering gracefully.
Finish
Long, warming finish filled with rye spice—pepper, clove and a hint of cinnamon—draped in vanilla and toasted oak, with a bright citrus lift that fades into a soft, smoky echo.
