Balvenie Classic Whisky 18 Year Old
Out of stock
A very rare flat decanter style bottling of this 18 year old Balvenie Classic. Complete with the original box which is in near mint condition. A very desirable bottle for the Balvenie collector
Originally launched sometime in 1982 with both a non aged and 18 year old version available and was also the first whisky to be "finished" to be given an additional period of maturation in a second cask of a different type, here Sherry butts were used.
So David Stewart (Malt Master at Balvenie for over 50 years) could claim to have invented and started the whole cask finish craze?
A piece of Scotch history as well as an innovation that was not fully appreciated at the time.
Featured in Ian Buxton's 101 legendary whiskies you're dying to try but (possibly) never will book.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with a glossy, sun-bronzed hue and coppery glow, edged with rich mahogany.
Nose
Opulent honeyed aroma blends creamy vanilla with dried orchard fruit and toffee. Raisin and fig emerge, wrapped in gentle sherry notes of cocoa and walnut, spiced with cinnamon. Oak lends polished warmth, inviting a slow, indulgent inhale.
Palate
Silky and medium-full on the palate, with a luxurious sherry-draped sweetness. Deep dried fruit notes of raisin, fig and apricot sit alongside orange zest, toasted almond and velvet chocolate. Rich honeyed caramel, warm spice (cinnamon, clove) and polished oak give structure, leading to a long, refined finish with a silky whisper of smoke.
Finish
An enduring, sherried finish of velvet sweetness and textural richness: dried figs and plums, orange zest, cocoa, and spice echo through silky oak, lingering warmly.
