Arrrrrrrdbeg! Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been created to commemorate a key event in Ardbeg's history. After 13 years at the helm, the legendary Distillery Manager and Committee Chairman, Mickey Heads, is departing. It’s true, the captain of the good ship Ardbeg is retiring. Mickey’s leaving has been hard to fathom for all of the crew, but to commemorate the skipper and his service, they have created an extra special bottle of Ardgrog a treasure fit for even the saltiest of seadogs. The first of its kind, this expressions is wholly matured in ex-Rye casks.
Ardbeg Wee Beastie has been matured for just 5 years, making it the untamed ‘enfant terrible’ of the whisky world. Whereas most single malts seek the smoothness and balance of older age, Ardbeg know that more time in cask tends to subdue the smokiness that so many whisky fans love. By boldly proclaiming the whisky’s relative youthfulness, Ardbeg invite consumer curiosity and promise a monstrously smoky experience.
Arrrrrrrdbeg 2020 Committee Release:
On the nose, aromas of smoked banana and pear drift into hints of rye bread, sweet vanilla toffee and the gentlest breeze of aniseed. With a splash of water, citrusy lemon and lime make course through the senses, while refreshing notes of sherbet and sweet pastry come to the fore.
A spicy mouthfeel hoists up and ignites a blunderbuss of fruity flavours, such as melon and kiwi. An armada of aniseed appears, tailed by notes of smoked toffee and a distant hint of sourdough biscuits.
Finally, the long finish lingers, leaving sea spray, brazil nuts and a faint smoke listing on the palate.
Wee Beastie:
On the snout, intense aromas of cracked blacked pepper mingle with sappy pine resin and a sharp tang of smoke. Suddenly, an explosive mouthfeel bursts forth with chocolate, creosote and tar. Savoury meats sink into the palate before the long salty mouthcoating finish slinks away… revealing the inner beast of this Islay icon.
Young and intensely smoky, this is a dram untamed by age. Matured in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, Wee Beastie is perfect for enjoying neat or as the mouth-watering main ingredient in a powerfully smoky cocktail.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-gold with a sun-kissed amber core, a warm, honeyed glow that hints at sherry cask maturity.
Nose
Smoked banana and pear rise from the glass, edged with rye bread, vanilla toffee and a whisper of anise. Water brightens lemon and lime, while sherbet and sweet pastry provide a confectionary lift, beneath a bold maritime smoke that hints at Wee Beastie’s peppery, resinous backbone.
Palate
Spicy, bold and maritime on the palate: a peppery thrust gives way to a chorus of melon and kiwi sweetness, citrus lift and aniseed, then waves of smoked toffee with sourdough biscuit. Savory notes emerge—chocolate, creosote and tar—while sea-salt, brazil nut and a long, saline finish linger.
Finish
Long, salty finish that clings with sea spray and a whisper of Islay smoke, interlaced with subtle brazil-nut notes and coastal sweetness. A mouth-coating conclusion that slowly wanes, leaving the sea on the palate.
