For Ardbeg, the year 2000 was truly a momentous one. With the renovation of the Ardbeg Distillery in place, Dr. Bill Lumsden and the whisky creation team worked their magic on this rare stock. Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K is a series of limited releases from the year 2000, combining modern, innovative whisky-making techniques with spirit produced using the old Ardbeg stills.

Laid down in 2000, this is the third and final release from this serendipitous stock. After 25 years of maturation, it was discovered unfinished by Dr Bill, who selected Spanish Tempranillo red wine casks from Bodega Numanthia for its final stage of maturation, adding another layer of character to this ultra-rare Ardbeg.

Rich aromas of coffee and smoked fruit are joined by notes of BBQ ribs and paprika, while classic Ardbeg flavours emerge through peat smoke, sweet chilli and mustard seeds. A distinctive and unusual expression, Vintage_Y2K represents a smoky anomaly from a unique moment in the distillery’s history that is unlikely ever to be repeated.
