The Macallan Speymalt Single Malt Scotch Whisky 20 Year Old · 1978 Vintage
Out of stock
Gordon & MacPhail have been purveyors of fine goods across three centuries and, over many years, have built up and nurtured special relationships with local producers. Among these are several local whisky distilleries in the Speyside region from whom they purchase new-make spirit to be matured in their own oak casks.
However, there is only one distillery for which they reserve the title ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’.
Established in 1824 and situated overlooking the fishing beats on the River Spey, the Macallan Distillery produces a wonderfully complex spirit, which they then carefully mature in quality oak casks ordered specifically for the ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’ range.
Each bottling carries the vintage of distillation and the year of bottling, capturing an exceptionally mature single malt whisky.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a burnished mahogany edge.
Nose
Opulent sherry notes envelop sun-warmed fig, raisin and orange marmalade, braided with toffee, vanilla and a touch of cocoa. A cedar-tinged oak backbone and gentle spice lend refined maturity, evoking a richly aged Speyside classic.
Palate
Silky and refined on the palate, this Speymalt from Macallan opens with dried fig, prune and red raisin, unfolding into dark chocolate, orange zest and toffee. Spices—cinnamon, clove, a whisper of nutmeg—drive a velvety oak backbone, gently caramelly and sherried. The finish is long and warm, with toasted almond, leather and a final, elegant spice glow.
Finish
An opulent, lingering finish that coats the palate with velvety oak and sherry depth. Dried fig and raisin give way to orange zest, cocoa and gentle spice, fading into a long, warm glow that lingers with refined sweetness and a final whisper of oak.
