Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep burnished amber with mahogany depth and coppery highlights.

Nose

Sherry-driven richness rises in a velvet bouquet: dark fruitcake, figs and raisins mingle with treacle, orange peel and vanilla, aged in polished oak. Cinnamon and clove spark briefly, with almonds and cacao adding depth to a luxuriously lingering aroma.

Palate

Velvety and full-bodied, the palate unfolds with dried fig and raisin, brightened by orange zest and creamy toffee. Rich dark chocolate threads through baking spice—cinnamon and clove—woven with plush oak. A long, warming finish drapes the mouth in sherried elegance and lingering sweetness.

Finish

Long, richly sherried and velvety, with dried fruits, orange peel and toffee lingering alongside espresso and dark chocolate. Spiced oak and a gentle warmth cushion the finish, fading into a refined, lingering postglow.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
