Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep copper-amber with warm mahogany undertones and a subtle ruby sheen.

Nose

Deep, opulent aromas of aged sherry bathe the glass—raisin, fig and plum mingle with orange zest and toffee. Rich oak, vanilla custard and cocoa nibs unfold with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, supported by leather and antique oak. A lush, velvety perfume hints at dark chocolate and espresso.

Palate

Silky, full-bodied, sherry-soaked fruit—figs, raisins and orange zest—coats the palate with dark chocolate and toasted almonds. Cinnamon and clove spice rise, supported by vanilla and oak, finishing long, warm and luxuriously refined.

Finish

Long, velvety finish with dried fruit, orange zest and dark chocolate, lifted by warm spices and sherried oak. Notes of fig and vanilla linger gracefully, slowly fading into a refined, lingering sweetness.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
