Since 1826, Pulteney Distillery has endured everything nature and man can throw at it, including 25 years of prohibition. Old Pulteney is inseparable from the spirit of the harbour town it calls home which is why it will always be the Maritime Malt.

Matured next to the sea for 25 years, first in American Oak ex bourbon casks and finished in Spanish oak ex-sherry casks. Glimmering bronze on the eye with a mature, fragrant aroma rich in rum-soaked raisins, lime honey and baked apples. A lush flavour anchored in bitter chocolate and creamy vanilla with hints of toffee, lemon and coconut delivers a long, spicy fruit cake finish.

Glimmering bronze with warm amber highlights.

Nose

A mature, maritime nose rich in rum-soaked raisins, lime honey and baked apples, lifted by creamy vanilla with a hint of citrus and toffee.

Palate

Velvety on the palate with a creamy vanilla core, braided by bitter chocolate and a touch of toffee. Layering lemon zest and coconut, a maritime spice threads through the mid-palate, supported by refined oak and a warm, coastal glow. The finish is long and fruit‑cake rich, echoing with lingering spice and a whisper of salt from the sea.

Finish

Long, spicy fruit cake on the finish, with bitter chocolate and creamy vanilla lingering through toffee, lemon and coconut; sherry-influenced depth and a maritime warmth remain, a refined, lasting close from 25 years beside the sea.

Old Pulteney
(Old PULT-nee) Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, during the height of the town’s herring boom, and for a time it was the most northerly distillery on mainland Scotland. Its history includes a long silent period after Wick voted to go dry under the Temperance Act: the distillery closed in 1930, prohibition in the town ended in 1947, and production eventually resumed in 1951. Later milestones include a major refurbishment in 1958, Inver House Distillers taking ownership in 1995, and the release of the now-iconic Old Pulteney 12 Year Old in 1997.
