Karuizawa (silent) Asama Japanese Single Malt Whisky 2000 Vintage
Out of stock
A Japanese single malt from the closed Karuizawa distillery, this Asama release was distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2012 at 46% ABV after maturation in sherry casks. Named after Mount Asama near the distillery, it was produced from remaining stocks following the distillery’s closure.
Sherry cask maturation adds rich dried fruit, spice and oak depth to Karuizawa’s characteristically powerful and full-bodied spirit, complementing the distillery’s dark fruit richness and firm structure. Drawn from increasingly scarce reserves, it represents one of the later releases from this highly sought-after silent distillery.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep burnished amber with copper-gold highlights and mahogany edges, a luxurious, wine-rich hue that suggests sherry influence and mature oak.
Nose
Rich dried fruit dominates: raisin, fig and prune mingle with dark chocolate and orange zest. Sherried oak lends cinnamon and clove spice, with a subtle leather-tobacco undercurrent. Concentrated, velvety and imposing, the nose promises the Karuizawa’s signature depth and power.
Palate
Opulent and full-bodied, the palate opens with dark fruit and sherry richness—prune, fig and raisin—over roasted almond and cocoa. Oak adds warmth and a poised tannic backbone as black cherry and plum stride through notes of coffee and tobacco. Long, resinous finish with spice, dry wood and a lightly warming velvet afterglow.
Finish
Silky, enduring finish of dried fruit and spice, carried by sherry-tinged oak. Dark plum and fig unfurl into cacao and whispers of forest floor, while peppery warmth lingers with a refined, tannic backbone, fading to an elegant, resinous tail.
