Tasting Notes

Colour

Pale straw-gold with a bright, sunlit gleam.

Nose

Bright and summery, with pink grapefruit, galia melon and green tropical fruit, lifted by crisp cucumber and a breath of fresh mint. Subtle whispers of summery barley fields weave through, delivering a clean, grassy freshness.

Palate

Clean and crisp, delivering citrus brightness with melon and cucumber, tempered by gentle ginger spice. Green apples lend tartness, while dried apricot adds a soft, fruity depth.

Finish

Crystalline and crisp, with a wine-like finish that evokes New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Gooseberry and tangy lime curd mingle with a whisper of white pepper, leaving a bright, refreshing afterglow.

(hah-koo-SHOO) Hakushu was founded in 1973 by Keizo Saji as Suntory’s second malt whisky distillery, built deep in the forests of the Southern Japanese Alps to mark 50 years since the founding of Japanese whisky. Created to produce a style distinct from Yamazaki, it was established in Yamanashi for its exceptionally soft mountain water and cool, misty climate, and has since become one of the defining names in Japanese single malt.
