Glen Mhor (silent) Rare Malts Selection Single Malt Scotch Whisky 28 Year Old · 1976 Vintage
Out of stock
A Glen Mhor single malt released as part of the Rare Malts Selection, this 28 year old was distilled in 1976 and bottled in 2004 at a natural cask strength of 51.9% ABV after long maturation in oak. The distillery closed in 1983 and was later demolished, making official bottlings increasingly scarce.
The Rare Malts series was known for presenting whiskies in a powerful, undiluted style, often revealing distillery character rarely seen in standard releases. Long ageing adds depth and structure to Glen Mhor’s Highland style, where light fruit, malt sweetness and gentle spice are supported by mature oak, offering a rare glimpse of a lost distillery’s character.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with burnished copper edges and a hint of mahogany, glowing with aged oak.
Nose
Silken toffee and honeyed malt cradle a bright core of green apple and pear, lifted by citrus zest and a hint of apricot. Sherry-soft warmth threads vanilla and spice—nutmeg and clove—through mature oak, while cask-strength depth adds resinous, honeyed complexity. An elegant, lost-Highland nose.
Palate
Powerful yet refined, it delivers light fruit and malt sweetness tempered by gentle spice. A mature oak backbone provides structure, with a rounded, slightly oily mouthfeel. The finish is long and warming, revealing vanilla, dried fruit and a subtle sherry-driven depth.
Finish
Long, stately finish with warm sherry sweetness and mature oak. Dried fruit and orange zest unfold over toasted malt, while gentle spice—cinnamon and clove—lingers in a lush, oak-driven glow. At cask strength, a spicy warmth persists, tapering to a refined, resinous fade that echoes Glen Mhor’s vanished character.
