This 11-year-old Craigellachie was bottled at 55.5% ABV as part of the Darkness series and yielded 365 bottles. The whisky was initially matured in oak before being transferred for a finishing period in Oloroso sherry octave casks — small casks designed to intensify the sherry influence through greater contact between spirit and wood.

Nose

Complex and intriguing, with honeydew melon, leather, and a briny kiss of caraway and black pepper.

Palate

Blossoming sweetness within a nutty, oily and richly textured malt. Some caraway spice and clove.

Finish

Forests of oak and pine, hard caramel and a lasting nuttiness.

Craigellachie
(Craig-ELL-a-key) Craigellachie was built in 1890, with production beginning in 1891, and was designed by Charles Doig for a consortium led by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie. From the start it was closely tied to the White Horse blend, and that link shaped much of the distillery’s early history. Long known locally as the White Horse Distillery, Craigellachie later became part of Bacardi in 1998 through John Dewar & Sons.
