Clynelish is an east coast Highland distillery located just off the A9 in the town of Brora, Sutherland. Founded in 1819 by the duke of Sutherland the distillery was built with an aim to produce whisky to take some trade away from smugglers in the local area. The whisky has a rich, waxy, oiliness to it which works well for blending Scotch.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery reflections and mahogany undertones.
Nose
Waxen and oily on the nose, with beeswax and polished timber underpinning a sherry-braced fruit core. Dried fig, raisin and orange peel mingle with toasted almond, vanilla and spice, while a saline coastal breeze threads through—sea air, faint brine, and whisper of leather. Rich, layered and unmistakably Clynelish.
Palate
Luxuriously waxy and oil-coated on the palate, this full-bodied dram delivers sherried richness with a coastal brightness. Dark orchard fruits, cherry, fig and raisin, mingle with orange zest, vanilla and resinous wax. The mouthfeel is velvety and substantial, with spice, cocoa and a saline, lingering finish that hints at oak.
Finish
Long, waxy finish that clings with oily richness, releasing honeyed toffee, dried fruits and orange zest, layered over walnut and cocoa. Sherry influence deepens with spice—cinnamon and clove—alongside a subtle leather note. A whisper of maritime brine and toasted oak lingers as the oil coats the mouth, slowly fading to a warm, polished glow.
