Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2018 - Spanish Oak Finish Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 16 Year Old · 2002 Vintage
In stock
A limited release of just 1500 bottles for the 2018 Feis Ile that was matured in whisky refill casks and then finished in Spanish oak Gran Reserva butts. A curiously funky and unique expression of Bunnahabhain with fresh ripe fruits, oaky spice with savoury notes of cured meat, farmyard, and leather.
Conclusion: Oddly compelling and transgressive. One for those of you who like it down and dirty.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Big, funky nose opens like a cheesemonger’s shop: pickled herring, mashed neeps, gravy and vegetal notes. Cowshed, silage and gamey venison mingle with leather, with clove, date and prune weaving through. A crack of island spice and warm oak lingers, bold and transgressive.
Palate
Big, with a light, struck match element adding a smoky note. There’s some toasted cereal on the tip of the tongue before meat juices pool in the centre. Fat and still funky, mixing sweetness with an oiliness. It has Bunna’s ginger notes, but this is a deeply savoury, gamey version. With water added, it becomes less hot and slightly sweeter, dropping into black fruits with the sulphur more in check.
Finish
Robust and long.
