Bunnahabhain Wemyss Malts - Heather & Leather Single Cask Whisky 31 Year Old · 1987 Vintage
In stock
Distilled in 1987 and bottled in 2018, this 31-year-old Bunnahabhain was released by Wemyss Malts as part of their single cask series. Matured in a sherry cask for over three decades, the cask yielded 551 bottles, bottled at 41.7% ABV. As with other Wemyss releases, the name “Heather & Leather” reflects the flavour profile discovered within the cask.
Bunnahabhain Distillery, founded in 1881 on the remote north coast of Islay, is known for producing a predominantly unpeated Islay style, quite different from the island’s heavily smoky whiskies. Its spirit often shows a rich, coastal character with notes of dried fruit, nuts and gentle maritime influence, which develops beautifully with extended maturation in sherry casks.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, sun-warmed amber with mahogany depth and a coppery glow.
Nose
An evocative Highland wilderness on the nose: heather, gorse flowers and crisp autumn leaves mingle with old-fashioned leather walking boots and wax jackets, evoking a bracing hike through the Scottish Highlands.
Palate
Deep honey and demerara sweetness opens, like warm flapjacks, yielding savory, meaty notes with a leathered edge. Herbal caraway and dried rosemary thread through the mid-palate, while coastal hints and subtle oak tannins lend ballast. The finish carries a quiet smoke from the sherry cask, leaving a refined, resinous warmth.
Finish
A gentle, smoke-kissed finish lingers, borne on warm wood tannins, with a subtle echo of leather and a quiet maritime breath.
